Approved course substitution not showing | Contact your advisor to confirm the exception and when it was submitted. |

In the degree completion program, we take care of submitting your graduation application to the University. You just need to let us know you’re ready.

Graduation Term | Deadline |
---|---|
Summer | Last Friday in February |
Fall | Last Friday in March |
Spring | First Friday in October |
The $100 application fee helps fund our yearly commencement ceremony and pays for your e-diploma and paper diploma. The application fee and commencement fee cannot be waived. Once this fee has been paid, it can transfer over to the following term if your expected graduation term has been changed.

If a diploma name is not specified then the first, middle, last name and any suffix will appear on the diploma as it is recorded in the Student Center (preferred name is not used).
- Open the Student Center
- Navigate to your Personal Information section
- Select either the Names or Addresses links
- Edit, add or verify your Diploma Name and Address
Note about Names
Changing your preferred or Diploma name does not change your primary (legal) name. To change your primary name, complete the Name Change Request form (PDF) and submit using the below process:
- Send the completed form as an attachment from your SFSU email directly to the Registrar's Office.
- A physical signature is not needed if submitting forms via SFSU email.
- The Registrar’s Office will review and process.
Application Submission Note
You may submit your application until the end of the term for which you are applying. However, we encourage you to apply during the priority period to avoid the $5 late fee so we can provide ongoing, timely feedback about your degree completion.
Please Note: To have your name and degree included in the annual commencement ceremony program, we must receive your Graduation Intent Form by March 15.
Do You Need to Be Excluded from the Commencement Program?
Students who have notified us to Withhold Directory Information (sometimes referred to as a “FERPA block”) will not be included in the Commencement Program.
If you do not wish to be included in the Commencement Program (but don’t have a FERPA block on your record), please email regweb@sfsu.edu no later than the deadline of April 1, and we will exclude you from the list of graduates in the program.
