Description
This introductory course gives working and aspiring instructional designers a grounding in the basics of multimedia scriptwriting. In the course, we'll trace the process of developing a compelling audio/visual script for a brief instructional multimedia piece of your choosing. A worksheet developed specifically for the course will guide you from start to finish, from identifying your target audience to creating a script with all the information needed to produce your piece. (Note: You will not be asked to create the multimedia piece, just the script for it.) Along the way, we'll explore many facets of professional scriptwriting practice, including: the essential steps of the scriptwriting process, the structure and instructional possibilities of three major forms of presentation (demonstration, documentary, and
dramatization), and various production styles at your disposal. Weekly homework submissions based on the course¿s worksheet will be discussed openly and supportively at the start of each class session.
Course objectives:
-- To improve your ability to develop effective scripts for instructional multimedia components of
various types
-- To improve your ability to evaluate the skills of instructional scriptwriters.
