Why did you choose to attend the SFSU Post-Bac program?

I chose SFSU because I wanted to attend a program that was flexible and supported students who needed to obtain clinical hours while taking the necessary coursework.

What is/was your favorite spot on the SFSU Campus, and why?

My favorite spot is the library. I appreciate how I would always see fellow cohort members there and how I did not have to travel far for coffee, since Peet's coffee is right outside the main library doors :)

Which SFSU Post-Bac class was your favorite and why?

My favorite post-bac course was biochemistry with Professor Deepika Ahuja. Even though it was fairly difficult, I think Professor Ahuja made it fun by bringing in current topics into the curriculum to make the material relatable. And she always incorporated an open and collaborative environment.

What is/was your favorite thing to do in SF?

My favorite thing to do in SF was enjoying the local restaurants. I will always miss eating at Tang Bar which served hot pot in the Stonestown Galleria mall.

Tell us something you learned and as SFSU Post-Bac that is important to you.

I learned the importance of being actively involved in the program. While I still have much to learn as a current medical student, I’ve come to realize that sharing my experiences with new students in the post-bac program can be valuable in helping them navigate and determine their own paths.

What advice would you give to incoming post-bac students?

Prioritize your academics, and don’t forget your ‘why.’ And be adaptable; it’s okay to start the program with a specific interest and finish it with a different one. That’s all part of your journey!

What resources have you used while a post-bac to help you reach your goals?

I utilized the listserv email, which helped me learn about various job and volunteer opportunities.

Did you make meaningful friendships in the program? If so, tell us about them.

I met awesome friends in the program from various cohorts. As a career changer, I developed meaningful friendships with my classmates since we took classes together for nearly two years. I still remain close with them, and many are now medical students at their respective institutions.
