The Pre-Health Professions Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program offers a formal partnership with Samuel Merritt University (SMU) that creates pathways to select graduate health programs. This partnership is designed to support your transition from pre-health preparation to graduate study.

If you meet SMU program and admissions requirements, you may receive added consideration when applying to participating Samuel Merritt University programs.

Through this partnership, eligible students may be considered for:

  • Direct entry to select graduate programs
  • Guaranteed interviews for select programs
  • Priority or additional admissions consideration

The level of consideration varies by program. Admission is not guaranteed.

Samuel Merritt University offers pathways for Pre-Health students into select programs, including:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Podiatric medicine
  • Physical therapy
  • Physician assistant studies
  • Pre-licensure nursing programs

Program availability and requirements are set by Samuel Merritt University and may change.

To participate in the partnership, you must:

  • Be enrolled in the SFSU Pre-Health Professions Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program or have completed it within the past two years
  • Remain in good academic standing
  • Complete all required prerequisite coursework
  • Meet all Samuel Merritt University admissions and application requirements

You must apply through the appropriate centralized application service and follow standard admissions timelines.

  • You apply directly to Samuel Merritt University using their required application system.
  • Your application fee is waived when you apply through the partnership.
  • Samuel Merritt University makes all final admissions decisions.
  • If admitted, you are subject to Samuel Merritt University’s academic and conduct policies.
